A bit below average, a far cry from other reviews, Nov 1, 2010

Pros: The hush puppies. Try them if you must visit.
Cons: Over priced considering the lacking food quality

I hate to admit this but I visited this restaurant based on some Google reviews. I now have a reason to not use Google reviews.

The restaurant did not require reservations on a Friday night which should have been my red flag to go some place else! In Ottawa on a Friday night most average restaurants are full and most above average restraints need a reservation to avoid the 1 hour line ups.

Regardless, we (a group of 6) decided to visit. On arrival we all noted the lack of people dining there that night. We also note shortly after sitting that it was cold in side. A comfortable temperature goes a long way to help with an enjoyable dining experience.

The service as a whole was very slow. The waiter also forgot simple things like putting salt and pepper on the table, brining ketchup, etc.

This restaurant boasts that it is Ottawa’s only smoke house. Honestly, Ottawa still does not have a smoke house. When you make a claim like that your food had better have a good smoked flavour that is not totally masked by the barbeque sauce.

Personally, I ordered the ribs. They were tender, not juicy (actually a bit dry), not very smoky, not very saucy and actually a bit on the bland side. I was not impressed. The side dishes where very tasty. I had the hush puppies and the glazed veggies. Both were excellent.

My mother ordered the fish and chips. I tried a piece to see what it was like, as did my father. The fish was not haddock as advertised, it was cod fish. The fish was not fresh and thus it was dry and tough to eat. I will never understand how any self respecting chef can substitute cod for haddock and how most people never see the difference. The flavours are as different as knight and day.

My uncle ordered a medium rare stake that was prepared well… well done that is.

My lasting impression was overpriced mediocre food.
