Well, where do I start, the crappy service or the excellent food? This is a challenging review because it brings up the whole debate about what's more important, great food or great service. I will consider just that as I write this review.
Vito's is an Italian restaurant on Mountain Rd. They have been located there for several decades and have developed a loyal clientele. They provide a dim lit, quite atmosphere with very soft music in the background. It sets the tone for a pleasant evening.On the other hand, the service makes you fell unwelcome. That was my first thought when I entered and the hostess looked at me as if she was thinking "oh great, another one". She seated me in a corner an my waitress was right over to take my order. I was not ready so I asked for a glass of water and when she returned a few minutes later I ordered the Chicken Slovakia, thus concluding the evenings service.My waitress returned with a warm bun and shortly there after she returned with my main dish. At this time I was out of water and asked for another glass. I slowly ate my food and I was still sitting with an empty glass. Now I was sitting with no water and no food... hello... what's wrong with this picture? After about 10 minutes passed by my waitress returned to ask if I wanted anything else. I asked for the water that I had not received and I ordered the raspberry eruption for desert. Oddly, the waitress was not apologetic nor put out in the slightest that she forgot to serve one of her customers. Off she went to get my water and dessert. She always seemed in a rush to leave but not to return. It took her about 10 minutes to find a piece of cake and a glass of water. I eat my dessert and start waiting for the waitress to return. I did not have my watch on but shortly after I finished the table beside be said well, its 8:02 we should be leaving. They got up and disappeared. It seemed that 10 more minutes passed and still no check. I decided to stop waiting and go to the cash to play. The lady working on the cash said that she would have to go find my waitress to get her to do the check. about 2-3 minutes later she returned and told me that she had to do my check because my waitress was no where to be found. She assumed that my waitress was busy with a large group in for a reservation. If my waitress was so busy with the reservation why was she in the main room serving me... why did they not have another waitress take my order? I have used the words "sufficient", or "just adequate" to describe some bad service in Moncton but those terms are too generous for this place. This service was terrible. Absolutely brutal. I don't think it would be possible to receive any less service. After all my waitress did not make it back to my table before I gave up and left!No to confuse all of my readers... The food was fantastic!!!! The Greek salad with my meal was chunky with tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese. They also used just the right amount of dressing. There was enough to give a great flavor and not enough to drown the rest of my plate. The Slovakia was tender, moist, and full of flavor. This was some of the best Slovakia that I have had in Moncton. The rice was cooked with tomato's and vegetables. This added lots of character to the rice and gave it a great flavor. I ended the meal with the Raspberry eruption cheesecake. This was a great desert but if you like chocolate go for the chocolate eruption. The raspberry version is not as sweet.Well, its time to rate Vito's. Let me be clear, any points lost here are due to bad service. The food was fantastic, but I can only give Vito's a weak 3.5/5. I will try them again and if I get the same quality of food with great service they will see a dramatic improvement in their rank.
