Pros: Great value considering the portions and quality of food.
Cons: Temperature control... It was really cold in there!

With a name like Asian Garden I would have expected to discover Chinese food on the menu here. However, this is not a Chinese restaurant, its Indian cuisine with a specialization in Mughlai and Tandoori dishes.

One sunny cold noon hour we decided to drop by Asian Garden to try it out. I had heard really good things about it. We arrived at about 11:40 and were seated promptly. There was only one other table with people seated at that time. One of the first things I noticed was that this place was freezing. I think it was actually warmer out side and it was about -10 that day! Perhaps when you know you are opening the doors at 11:30 you can turn the heat on early enough to provide and enjoyable room temperature for the visiting patrons. The next thing that I noted was that if it was not for the music in the back ground I would not have even recognized that this place was serving ethic food. My opinion is that the decor in ethnic restaurants should reflect the flare and style of the food being served. It makes for a more enjoyable experience.

Drink orders where taken right away and we asked for a few minutes extra to decide what we would order. One of our guests was not arriving until 12:00 so his girlfriend was going to order for him but I think the waitress assumed we would to be ordering until he arrived because the few extra minutes turned into a very long wait for her to return. I will not hold the waitress at fault for that.

On this visit I decided to have the Tandoori lunch from the lunch menu as well as the soup of the day to hopefully get warmed up and how could I resist trying their Samosas.

Considering we were a table of 5 our food was prepared and served very quickly. I did not time it, but it was fast. I was first served my Samosas. They were 2 large stuffed pastries with a dipping sauce. The are easily twice the size of those that you find at the farmers market. As for taste they were just your average run of the mill somosa. The next thing to be served was my soup of the day (I had hoped this would have been first). The soup of the day was tomato based and was excellent, very full of flavour. The tandoori lunch left me with mixed feelings. The chicken was very tasty and enjoyable. The mint chutney that came with the meal was a little less than adequate. I really enjoy good Naan (indian Bread). Good Naan is an essential part of most Indian dish's in my opinion. The Naan served here was just ok. It was not bad at all but I have definitely had better.

Price wise, I feel that Asian Garden offers up some of the best value for a lunch menu. I had 2 appetizers and the main course for only 11.40 and I was full on leaving. 1 appetizer was more than sufficient.
