Pros: One word, Value!
Cons: Perhaps someone should tell them about a little thing called the thermostat

Doc Dylan’s is one of my favorite pubs to visit. I enjoy the food and the atmosphere.... not sure why... I just do...

On this particular visit I attended Doc’s with a group of friends. We asked to be seated in the top portion of the restaurant. There are typically fewer people up there. The sign posted said the upper level was closed but our server told s to go ahead and move up stairs.

Doc’s is always a bit dark and tends to have poor temperature control. They are always cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I guess its and older building with poor insulation and lots of drafts. At times Doc’s can be quite unpleasant temperature wise. On this visit the place was on the a bit on the cold side but after a beer and a plate of hot food it was fine. The other negative about Doc’s is that it is not a very clean pub. Everything always seems a bit dirty and greasy.

On some evenings Doc’s can be very busy but on this night there were very few people around. This provided a quite relaxed environment that our group enjoyed as we chatted for several hours.

As per usual the service at was a bit slow. Everything seems to take longer here, except for the beer. Beer orders a promptly taken and served! The food orders are slow to be taken and slow to be served. Because I have come to expect this from Doc’ Dylan’s it does not bother me much at all. On the flip side the servers at Doc’s are typically very pleasant and personable. When orders are extremely slow you can expect a free beer. After you are served they always check back several times to make sure you are happy with your order.

In the on going effort to find the best fish and chips in Moncton I ordered up just that. The order size for price is typical of any pub in Moncton. One thing I really like about this place is the fact that they use large thick steak cut fries. Many people are of a different opinion but I love these fries. Especially here because they always come piping hot with a very crisp out side and a tender inside. Sprinkle with salt and dip in ketchup and enjoy. The fish here at Doc’s is not too bad. It was a bit on the dry side. I was not convinced that it was haddock but it was still good. I suspect the fish was not old but rather over cooked.

After some time passed I decided it was time to order some lemon pepper wings. These came back relatively quickly for this place. I had asked to make sure my wings had lots of lemon spice but I was disappointed to find that they were very much lacking spice when I received the order. I tried them only to be further disappointed by the fact that they were a bit dry, or over cooked. Regardless, I had wings, now all I needed was spice. I asked the server for more spice and he immediately returned with Dixie cup full of spice. I dumped the whole thing over my wings and took a bite. The wings were now perfect. Just enough lemon to make the average person cry!

The prices one the menu provide really good value. Two people can easily stop in and eat for $30 including beer! SR
