Pros: The Food!
Cons: Never a con with the the Garlic King.

We always go here for our Lebonese take out. Every other place we have tried just does not compare. When you enter you are met with smiles, jokes and a happy crowd. It a busy place so your wait may be a bit long but be patient, its worth the wait. They give generouse portions as well so easy on the order unless yoru really hungry. The Monster is absolutly huge. Don't be shy to try the different garlic sauces that are available. Theya re all excellent and provide a nice change.

To my understanding there is now a new location for the Garlic King. I have not tried it yet but when I do I will post the review right away.

Pros: The Swiss Chalet brand is typically very good quality in all locations.
Cons: On one visit we waited for 10 minutes to be seated... the place was empty... we ended up leaving.

This is a typical Swiss Chalet. The food is on par with what you would expect at any one of thier locations. Its good food at a reasonable price. I do find that over the year the size of the chicken legs has shrank. If they keep this trend going they may as well change the name on the menue from quarter chicken dinner to 1/8 chicken dinner or wing dinner.

The strong negative for this place is that on my last visit I did not get to try the food. My wife and I stood at the "please wait to be seated sign" and after 10 minutes of being ignored we left. The place was empty except for 2-3 tables. There was no evidence of anyone working in the place. I don't know what happened wiht the staff that night but if thats reflective of the service thereis no need to return.

Pros: NONE
Cons: The food... terrible food

Being new to Ottawa, I have no clue where to find good Chinese food. After eating at Ruby King, I still have no idea.

When we pulled into the parking lot there was a lot of cars there. In Moncton, a restaurant with lots of cars means one thing… this place is going to be good. Well, not here.

On entering, you immediately see in front of you a very clean looking buffet. The room has lots of space for patrons to get around each other. The atmosphere is not very welcoming because the room is very bright and very black and white. Perhaps they want to blind you with glare. Off to the sides you will be seated in one of 4 or more sections that they have. Each has minimal decor with rows of tables along the walls. The chairs themselves are particularly uncomfortable. Perhaps they want you to be uncomfortable so that you do not stay and eat too much. But then again, the food does that job very well.

Being a buffet I always feel the need to sample everything. My first stop was the hot and sour soup. I have never had hot and sour soup before and it this is any indication of what it is supposed to be I will never have it again. After one spoon full I though hmm, its OK. After 3-4 spoonfuls I was thinking, ok that’s enough…

I always judge egg rolls as a big part of what makes a good Chinese restaurant. If I were to use that as the determining factor here, they would rank a very large negative score. The egg roll where disgusting and that’s a generous statement. Moving on to the rest of the buffet every dish has signature hotness to it…I am thinking black pepper and lots of it. There were a few items in the buffet that were alright like the salt and pepper pork chops and one type of chicken but I forget the name. Do not try the wings there were dry and tasteless. Every veggie and noodle dish looked unique but had the same basic flavour. I could go on for days expressing how disappointed I was with this place but you get the picture by now.

To make matters worse I am almost certain that the food was laced with MSG. In Moncton I found the places that did not use MSG and I ate at those places exclusively. I never thought to ask about MSG here but I will have to start asking so that I can avoid it. MSG is a chemical additive that is 100% not needed and why restaurants are allowed to use it is beyond me considering that the majority of the population has negative reactions to it thought most are minor some can be severe.

To sum this review up I will just say that I will not be returning to Ruby King.

Pros: The fish and chips are fantastic.
Cons: None to speak of

This pub is located in a tiny strip mall on Innes Rd. Its easy to miss to keep your eye open for it. On entering you immidiatly notice the scottish flare as there are tartans all over the walls. Beyond that there is a bit of a sports pub element with the game playing on several sets around the bar.

The service was fast and friendly. Not outstanding but very good. Our orders where taken and served in a decent time as where our drinks.

I had the fish and chips and I must say this is one of the best I have had. Being from the maritimes thats very hard to belive but its true. The slaw was tasty, the chips where hot and crisp, and the fish was battered and cooked to perfection. If you like fish and chips give this place a try.

I did like the atmosphere in this place. It is small, quite, dark, and clean. Cleaner than many pubs. I must admit though, I like my pubs a little on the dirty side... I know its strange but its what I like.

Pros: The garlic mashed potatoes are very good!
Cons: Over cooked ribs...

My wife and I went to Montana’s for supper on a Friday night. We got there around 5:30 and there was lots of free tables. We were seated very quickly and as soon as we were ready the server was there to take our orders.

While waiting we noticed that it was very cold inside. Considering that its August I did not have a jacket with me but if I did I would have put it on. I was just thinking we should have gotten an appetizer to help pass the time waiting for the meals and then boom, there was the food. Took about 10 minutes to get our food. There was a reason for that!

So, I ordered the pork rib tips with Apple butter barbecue. Coming from Moncton where these ribs are my favourite I expected no less from this Montana’s. Well, I could not be more wrong. The first rib I picked up was tough, dried out, stuck to the bone, over cooked, slightly charred, and lacking barbecue sauce. Lets dig deeper in to the pile…ahhh, there we go… oh no wait… more GARBAGE! Now, rule number one, if you are going to server a catastrophe like these ribs you had better take a bucket of barbecue sauce and dunk each rack in there in hopes that the sauce masks everything else that is wrong with the ribs.

To be blunt. THESE ARE THE WORST RIBS I HAVE EVER EATEN.

Well, when we were done the waitress was right there clean up and check us out so that we could be on our way. I could not be happier to be leaving. It will be a long time before I go back to Montana’s and it will not be for the ribs. Seriously, they were so bad the chef owes me an apology!
