Pros: The food is excellent
Cons: Price... i bit on the high side.

A group of friends and I ventured out to Boston Pizza on Mountain Rd. It was around 7:00 when we arrived. The dining room area had a short wait for tables but we chose to eat on the bar side. The service was fast and friendly. Our waitress served us drinks immediately and took our orders immediately after. During the evening she checked back a few times to see if we needed anything and removed plates promptly as we finished our meals. When we were all finished she quickly returned with our checks and took payment so that we could leave.

On this particular evening this area (the bar side) of the restaurant was about 50% full. The noise level was very low. I am sure that when this place is packed it would be a very different environment. Being set up as a sports bar, there are lots of screens around so that you can keep an eye on whatever sports game you choose.

On this visit I ordered the Tuscan Pizza. Unfortunately there was no spinach. I can't fault them for running out because that was not the case. The E-coli tainted spinach problem is still ongoing and so they opted to not risk poisoning their customers! The waitress assured me that my pizza would still be just at good as it would with spinach so I did not change the order. Other menu items were simply not available because of the spinach problem (e.g. Spinach and artichoke dip). In the end, I got a piping hot pizza that tasted fantastic. Next time I order the Tuscan pizza I might ask them to hold the spinach!

My individual sized pizza cost just over $10. Had I been hungry it would not have been enough and the small pizza would have cost just over $14. I tend to find that Boston Pizza in general is a bit pricey for what you get but the food is really good. On the other hand their pizzas are not typical of what you will find at any other pizza joint in Moncton thus the bit extra you are paying for the pizza is worth it.

Pros: All around fantastic dining experience!
Cons: No cons

Home alone and not wanting to cook anything I hit the road for another review. Tonight I stooped by Mike's on Mountain Rd. On this evening Mikes was very busy, however, the wait time for a table was only a few short minutes. Mainly because I was a party of 1! In any case, I was greeted promptly at the door and a booth was prepared.

After a few short minutes my waitress was there to take my order. I ordered their onion rings (~$6.00) to start and the Calabrese pizza (~$12.00) for the main dish.

With the place so busy I was expecting a long wait for my food so I grabbed a courtesy news paper and began to read. Surprisingly I was able to read without distraction. For such a large crowd the noise level was somewhat low.

In what seemed like only a couple of minutes my waitress returned with my onion rings. They were excellent as usual. They might be the worst thing on the entire menu that you can eat but they taste great. They also come with 2 dipping sauces. I think one is a mayonnaise sauce and the other is Dijon-anise. Much to my surprise I had only 1 ring left when my Pizza arrived piping hot! Was this dumb luck or do they really have things timed out that well? My calebrese pizza was fantastic. It had an ultra thin crust and it was dusted with Italian spice. Crust with no spice is just boring.

When I was done my waitress was right there to clear my table and bring out my bill.

I must give complements to the servers at Mike's. They are very attentive and do all they can to ensure your dining experience is pleasant. It makes you feel truly welcome to the restaurant. Well, that was my experience on this particular occasion.

To sum up; great service, great food, 5 out of 5 from me!

Pros: Newly rennovated!
Cons: Service.....it was crap

This McDonald's is located on Morton Ave. with some great pubs near by. I have not been to this location for about a year so when I evntered I was blown away by the rennovations. Most McDonalds have a standard cheap look that seems more for the kids than adults. This joint however has stepped it up a notch with fancy marble tops on thier counters and tables. They have a large oval table for groups of 6-8 and smaller tables for 2-4 behind. This is probably the best looking and cleanest looking McDonalds in all of the Maritimes. Anyways... moving on. The food as with the vast majority of McDonalds was great. I got a fresh hot burger and piping hot fries. So, whats the problem.... you guessed it. BAD SERVICE. I was thinking when I arrived that I was in for a 1-2 minute service. I was wrong. There was only 2 people in front of me, 3 if you count the guy who already ordered. So, with only 3 people in line why did it take me between 3-4 minutes to get my food!! On a busy lunch hour 3-4 minutes woudl give this place fair marks for service but wiht a line up of 3 people I have to take away almost all of thier service points. On this visit I rank this location 2.5/5.

Pros: Coconut shrimp... too bad I did not order them this time.
Cons: On this night is was the food, they typically do much better!

The Creek is a seafood restaurant tucked away behind the old Moncton farmer’s market downtown. In fact, many of my friends have no clue where it is and have not even heard of it, though it’s been there for several years.

On my most recent visit I attended The Creek with a large group if friends and family. The service through out the evening was average. The staff was friendly and ready to assist for the most part. There was one particular instance that stand out were the meals were served and a friend asked for ketchup and the waitress did not return so he had to go get the ketchup him self. Honestly, if your meal is served and is sitting there and you ask for ketchup before you start eating, shouldn't the waitress get it immediately so that you can enjoy your meal? I think so.

The atmosphere at The Creek was pleasantly quite. The decor is typical of a fishermen's restaurant, a lobster trap here and there, some fish nets, etc. Overall The Creek provides a relaxed dining environment.

For my appetizer I ordered a prize-winning dish, the vanilla shrimp. My advice is to not order these shrimp. For around $10 there were 5 medium sized shrimp that tasted just OK. How these shrimp won any prize is beyond me when they also have coconut shrimp on their menu for the same price and they are a far better choice. Actually, the coconut shrimp provided here is quite possibly the best I have had in Moncton. The diner rolls are worthy of mention, they where very light and fluffy and tasted great with some butter melted over them. For my main course I ordered the fish and chips, and replaced the chips with house salad. The house salad with the house dressing was great. The dressing is made on hand at the creek and is served warm. It has a very nice flavour. The fish on the other hand left a little something to be desired. The 3 pieces of fish were slightly on the small side, which would have been OK if the quality was great which leads me to my next complaints. The fish for starters did not seem to be fresh. It was very firm (old or over cooked) and a bit dry. Furthermore, the batter used on the fish was not that good. It was not your typical deep-fried fish batter that we all know and love. It was almost nothing more than a light dusting of egg, flour, and some spices. This is not what I was expecting and I will not likely order that particular fish off the menu again. I have had fish and chips at the creek in the past and it was really good but they have changed their batter since those times.

This review is a bit painful to post because until this evening the creek was one of my favourite places to visit. I know they have recently changed cooks and updated their menu but that's no excuse for lack of quality. Previously, I would have said that the food was well worth the price but considering this visit; I would have to consider this place to be over priced.

I can only give the creek a 3/5 SR

Pros: The fish was fantastic!!
Cons: No cons for this place.

After trying Deluxe I felt that it was only appropriate to try Skipper Jacks fish and chips. Now, with a name like Skipper Jack's how cold you go wrong ordering the fish'n chips... well let me tell you.... YOU CAN'T

Skipper Jack's comes across as a diner/fast food joint all in one. The seating area is dominated by booths and the food is actually brought over to our table after you place it at the counter.

As per the standard in Moncton their 3 piece fish and chips was around the $9 mark. We placed our order and 4-5 minutes later we had our food server piping hot. The waitress realized we were a bit shy on fries so she returned with more later when they were ready.

I started with the fries. They did not have much taste but heck, I load'em up ketchup anyways. On the plus side the fries were very hot and crisp. Bottom line, they where fantastic. With that out of the way I tore into the fish. The smell and the look told me it was haddock. When I took the first bite it was confirmed. The haddock was moist and tender. Lightly coated in a tender crisp golden brown batter. Not too thick but just right. To date this is the best fish and chips I have had in Moncton. If you like Deluxe you will love Skipper Jacks.

Its a clean and cozy little restaurant with some of the best fish in town, you can't go wrong.

I give the Skip two thumbs up and a perfect 5/5.
