Pros: none
Cons: none

I attended the Fox N hound with some friends for lunch. This pub is located in the Riverview mall and you need to enter through the mall to get in.

My first impression of the place was that it seemed a bit dreary and dirty. We were seated promptly in the back corner and our orders for drinks were taken. After they were delivered the waitress took our meal orders.

I ordered the fish and chips. When they arrived I tried the fries first, they were not bad. Then I moved on to the fish. Well, it was not bad fish but there was nothing special here either. It was average at best. I will not be making any special trip to Riverview to eat here.

After we were done the waitress cleared the table and came back with the check. We paid and were on our way. Though the service was fairly fast there was something a little off. The Fox n Hound scores a mediocre 3/5

I should have "Steadhome"., Oct 3, 2007

Pros: Good luck finding one
Cons: Well, there was nothing good about the place....

WOW, not what I expected at all. After eating at the Homestead restaurant I realized I should have "Steadhome". On arriving with a small party of 4 around 5:00 we were promptly seated, there was no line. The waitress immediately gave us menus and returned with water. We did not order for a short while as we were short one person. After he arrived we were ready to order and the waitress was there and ready.

I ordered the fish and chips ($10 approx.). After a short period the waitress returned with our meals and as soon as I saw the fish and chips I knew it was not going to be good. There was a mountain of fries covering two miniscule morsels of fish. I had to push the fries over to look for more fish because I could not believe that was it. (Disappointment #1). I tried some of the veggies, and much to my surprise there where some that were over cooked and some that were under cooked. I am not sure how this feat was accomplished. (Disappointment #2). Moving on to the fries. They were not actually too bad. They were crisp and piping hot. The coleslaw was very tasty and I enjoyed that as well. Then I moved on to the fish. On the very first bite I knew my expectations were accurate. The fish was nothing more than a frozen fish stick that was thawed and deep-fried (Disappointment #3). Even as a frozen fish stick it was sub-standard. The fish was dry and tough and not that good tasting either. To be completely honest I would have been much happier with oven baked fish sticks and fries at home. This meal reminded me of bad high school cafeteria food. I was very disappointed. I ordered home made lemon pie for desert, though not the best I have ever had I will say it was a very good piece of pie.

When we were done we were given our checks and we had to pay at the counter on the way out. I don't think they take payment at the table...

Over all I would have to say the service was not great, but not bad either. It was sufficient.

The look of the restaurant was a country style dining room. There was a mix of tables and booths and a bar to sit at as well. The cliental of this place was primarily and older crowd, as in seniors. There were some families with kids present.

I can only give this place a 1/5. That's a half point for the pie and a half point for the sufficient service. Its a good thing I had the pie.... S.R.

Pros: The hors d'oeuvres
Cons: The main course....

I will keep this one short and simple. We showed up as a large group of people one evening for supper. The staff was prepared for our group and the pre-ordered seafood hors d'oeuvres where promptly placed out for our group. These where a great way to start.

The service was good considering the size of our group.

For my main meal I ordered the shrimp Slouvaki. Being used to having chicken or porc slouvaki I was expecting a tasty treat with a twist. Boy was I mistaken. This was literally a stick of plain grilled shrimp. The menu should have just said shrimp on a stick because that’s all It was. I was annoyed. The so called Greek salad that came with this shrimp stick was gross. The wilted lettuce was doused with oil and too much vinegar. As for added spice in this Greek dressing, there was none, enjoy your vinegar.

The price would have been reasonable if the food was half way good but considerign this poor quality it was way over priced.

My advice, find another place to eat.

The only reason this place exists is to prey on visitors fromout of town., Oct 25, 2007

Pros: There was nothing good about steamers.
Cons: The food was dreadfull.

As a large group of people we visited steamers one evening in Downtown St. John. This place has a rustic look and feel. I think they want the appearance of a dock side take out, and if that look includes dirty and scuzy then they hit the nail right on the head. Perhaps they should reconsider the look.

Moving on, we decided to sit out side and we would need multiple tables put together. Typically the staff would do this but not here, we had to do it our selves. Perhaps we could have stood around and waited but its was hot outside and we wanted to be seated.

During the entire visit our waitress was not with the program at all. She would disappear for extended periods and be a bit scattery when she was present. The service here was ot good.

Being a sea food place I decided to try their fish and chips. I expected it to be outstanding but was greatly disappointed. The fries where hot but limp, not crisp. The fish followed in suit. There was a tough thick batter shell around the fish. It was not at all crispy. Inside the batter shell was a piece for fish, soggy and over cooked. The fish shrivelled up and let go of the batter. The inside of the batter has a slimy consistency. This was just a horrible order of fish and chips. My wife ordered the lobster bisque. They screwed that up too. My wife told me that it tasted like a bowl of melted butter and so I had to try it my self to see if she was exaggerating and, no, she was not. Literally, A bowl of melted butter. It was all you could taste, where is the lobster flavour. She sent that back to the kitchen and ordered the seafood chowder which in my opinion was no better but she ate that one anyway.

So, the food was disgusting. Most people ordered lobster and they enjoyed it but then again how can you screw up lobster? Well, let me tell you had I ordered the lobster and received one of the ones that I saw come out of the pot I would have sent it back. They cooked most of the lobster with the rubber bands on. The taste of the rubber gets shot through the meat giving you a rather strange tasting lobster. The people who ordered lobster do not eat lobster often and likely did not notice but if you eat lobster occasionally you should know when it has been cooked with the bands on the claws.

My over all impression of this place was not good. Go anywhere else. Perhaps a lobster roll from McDonalds would be better....

Pros: Great burger....Big Bacon Classic :D
Cons: They gave me the wrong burger the first time round.

This is one of the busier fast food joints in Truro. The service was fast but they messed up my order. Perhaps they are fast because they just sling the colsest burger in the bag and hope that no one will notice? Other than the mix up (which i dinged them hard for on teh service) every thing way quite good. The food was average compared with other Wendy's. The place was clean and quite though moderatly busy.
