Pros: Food and service!
Cons: In the winter they are very drafty because of the main entrance

This is a quaint little restaurant tucked away on Moncton's main Street. I am not 100% sure, but I think it is Moncton's only restaurant serving up Authentic Indian Cuisine. Naming the place after one of the 8 wonders of the world must mean they will be serving up great food right?

I have visited the Tajmahal in the past for several occasions. On this day I arrived with a couple of co-workers for lunch. When I arrived my friends were already seated. After being seated my self the waitress came over to take drink orders. We all simply asked for water and when she returned shortly there after we where ready to order. I had heard that the lunch platter was really good so that's what I decided to try. The wait time for our food was short, I think it was about 10-15 minutes from the time we ordered. When we finished our meals we were prompt given our checks so that we could pay at the counter and get back to work. I like when the check is delivered promptly at lunch time. It allows worked to get back to work on time and it also helps to keep the flow of people in the restaurant moving along. Over all the service was really good considering it was lunch time.

The lunch platter was quite tasty. I enjoyed it very much. However, I would personally not likely order it again. The curry chicken was very good but curry is not one of my favorite spices. A few other things on the platter was the rice, vegetable dish, and a small salad. All of which where good. There was also something called raita (Yogurt dish). Personally, I liked this but the friend who also ordered the platter did not. Its very different from the Yogurt you get from the store so it you are expecting it to taste like what you have at home you will likely not like it. The platter was also served with naan (flat bread). I love this bread, its fantastic. I have not had bad naan yet. The lunch platter is very good but in my opinion there are much better choices in the rest of the menu. One of my Favorites is the Butter Chicken!

At a price of $8.99 for the lunch platter you are getting an excellent value and a nice sample of flavors from the remaining menu.

One this particular day there was only a small lunch crowd. The place was close to full by the time we finished up. The Tajmahal tend to be quite and very pleasant. In the evening its dimly lit and has an air of intimacy. The decor is of course Indian style and has nice appeal.

The one thing that I really did not like was the front door. This might sound picky but hear me out. When I was seated after coming in from out side I wanted to warm up. I did get comfortable enough to take off my jacket but the problem was that every time the front door swung open a chilling draft blew in across the floor chilling me from my feet on up to my head. When I am trying to relax and enjoy a meal I do not like to have a draft blowing over me. In fact, it was near impossible to relax and enjoy my mean because the door was very busy as people were coming in steadily for the noon hour rush.

On this particular visit Tajmahal has earned a few demerit points. The food was really good but not great. Keep in mind, some of their menu items are absolutely fantastic. They also lose a few points for the chilling draft which can easily be fixed!!

For this visit the Tajmahal earns a 4.5

Pros: The food and value stand out.
Cons: The menu is small and nearly identical to Vien Dong. You will get board after visiting a few times.

This restaurant is located on Orange Ln. next to The Pump House. We visited Siagon Thia at noon hour to see if it was going to live up to its reputation. On entering you will notice a nicely decorated restaurant that is up kept very well. Its very clean, warm and welcoming. We were seated very quickly and the ordered from the lunch menu. I forget exactly what I ordered. The meals returned very quickly. After we were done our meal it seemed to take a long time to get our check and be on our way but the restaurant was filling up fast and the waitresses where very busy. The food here was great, just as good and say… Vien Dong. That’s because it’s almost the same menu. A few things are changed slightly but that’s all. Even the presentation of the meal on the plate is a repeat of Vien Dong. The fact that this place lacked originality does take away from the over all experience. If this place does something to make them selves stand out and possibly above Vien Dong they will surly capture the attention of Monctonians. I have ranked Siagon Thia very well, but I am disappointed with the lack of originality.

Pros: The lobster benedict.
Cons: No cons

T-Bones is the new Restaurant at the Crown Plaza on the corner of Highfield St. and Main St. On a Friday morning we arrived for breakfast and were promptly seated. In no time the waitress served us our orange juice and took our orders. Not long after we were served. When we were done the bill was ready for us to pay. Over all the service was very fast and friendly.

On this morning the restaurant was quiet, there restaurant was about half full at the time. Many people where reading the paper and the majority of them were likely staying at the hotel.

The breakfast menu was short, likely because they have a daily breakfast buffet for about $12. However, I was not in the mood for the buffet especially after seeing lobsters benedict on the menu. I had to try it. If you like egg's benedict and you like lobster, you will love this dish. If I recall the price was about $12 and was worth every penny. The hollandaise sauce was a perfect complement for the lobster. I highly recommend this to everyone. The only thing I would like to have seen was a touch more hollandaise sauce with the meal.

As for the price range for the breakfast menu, you will easily find cheaper breakfasts in town, but these guys and a few unique choices that you will not find else where as far as I know. T-bones is worth a morning visit, if the menu is not what you are looking for opt for their buffet (hot/cold).

Pros: There are not really any pros on this one.
Cons: The pizza was swimming in oil.

Yet another lunch time excursion. This one brought us to Pizza delight after several of us had a craving for pizza. We definitely cured the craving... We may have cure the pizza delight craving permanently on this visit. A group of 6 of us strolled into pizza delight at about 11:30 one Friday morning. We were pulling in for the pizza buffet. We were greeted by a waitress who seated up in the back. She told us that the pizzas would be out soon as they were not ready yet. That was fine by me because I wanted to start with the bread grill. Unfortunately these guys will not let you butter your bread before grilling it. I guess some people have been catching things on fire. Perhaps the bread does not need to be drenched in butter... hmmm....

Well, on to the pizza. I do not recall each and every pizza served up but I do recall one individual pizza. It was thin crust with bacon cheese and a white sauce. This pizza was great. The other all tasted very good as well. The unfortunate thing for pizza delight is that they seem to have a problem with spilling the oil. I am sure that I could have squeezed a 1/4 cup of oil from each slice. Ok that's a slight exaggeration but one of my friend did use napkin to blot the oil off the top before eating the pizza. The pizza's tasted fine but with the much oil used I will personally not be returning any time soon.

As for the service... it was adequate. We got seated. Drinks where served and from that point on its a buffet so you don't really see much of the staff. On leaving the check out process was lengthy but they were having some issues with their system that day.

This place is likely the smallest pizza buffet in Moncton. They only have a small dining room so the adjust the number of pizza's accordingly. The nice this about this place is that with fewer people you have little or no line at the buffet. So you sacrifice selection for efficiency. Now if only they can manage to cap the bottle of oil!

On this visit I can only give Pizza Delight 2.5/5. In spite of the fact that the pizza tasted good I can not go back because of the over use of grease. It was actually kind of gross. Considering my reluctance to return I think I am being generous in dishing up a 2.5!

Pros: Good food and service.
Cons: They pack too many people in too small a space, its not at all pleasent.

One evening for supper J., another friend, and I dropped by the igloo for some pub fair. It was a Friday evening and the place was packed with a line at the door. Good thing my friend showed up first, I did not have to wait in line!

My first impression was WOW, this place is packed too tight. Indeed this was the case because on my way to my friends table at the back I felt I had to be particularly careful not to bump into one of the other patrons.

Immediately after being seated someone from the bar came over to take my drink order and only a few minutes later the waitress was over to take our orders. On this occasion I went for the fish and chips. After all I have to start filling up the fish and chips page on our website!!. Considering how busy this joint was our food arrived quickly. I was very worried about my fish when I saw it because it was not your typical beer batter but rather the lightly dusted type of batter. To be honest, its not my idea of fish and chips. My hopes of finding tasty fish and chips was busted. However, hey pulled this one off. Though they used, in my opinion, a crappy style of batter they pulled it off. The fish was not bad. I am not convinced it was haddock but it was good. For strike number 2 the tarter sauce was very bad. It was green with relish. When I tasted it, all I could really taste was relish. I enjoy tartar sauce with my fish so to have this little dish of catastrophe on had was very unpleasant. It sat there as a nagging reminder that some decent tartar sauce would be good. The fries where spiced up a bit and were very tasty. The slaw, though not the best I have ever had, was very good.

The service here was pretty good. Actually, considering how busy this place was the service was great. The waitress was pretty much on top of things and she was pleasant and paid attention. Price wise, my meal was basically on par with any 3 piece fish and chips in Moncton.

My rating of this place is lowered by the excessive cramming of tables into a small space, bad tartar sauce, and (IMHO) the wrong kind of batter on their fish!! For this visit I give the Igloo 3.5/5.
