Pros: Great food and service!
Cons: No dessert with the buffet...

After preparing mentally and gastronomically it was time for a feast. It was time for a BUFFET! For lunch one Friday we decided that Maverick's would be our target. This was my first ever visit to Mavericks so I do not know what the old location was all about.

The new location is just off Mapleton Rd. in the new Future Inn. On entering you notice right away that the place is clean, fresh, welcoming. The place size divided into sections to give it a cozy feel.

The waitress seated up near the buffet and told us that if we wanted the buffet we could help our selves. There was no need to ask twice, we came for the buffet so forget the menus!

There were 2 choices for the buffet. The soup & sandwich buffet for $7.99, or the full buffet for $12.99. Needless to say I went for the full meal deal.

I tried absolutely everything in the buffet, how could I resist? I started with the soup and salad with a sandwich. For myself, I felt that the soup was excellent and worthy of special mention. The one I tries was the tomato basil. Moving on to the hot dishes there was a nice array of dishes including pasta's, vegetable dishes, rice, potatoes, chicken, beef cubes and freshly cut roast beef. Though I enjoyed everything I tried in the buffet (It was all really good) there was nothing that stood out as outstanding. I would like to be able to recommend an item or two as must tries but there are none that were above the rest.

J.W. decided it was time for desert. This is where I was a little put out. There was no desert offered with the buffet, not even a small bowl of ice cream or Jell-O. I am a firm believer that every buffet should include a sweet to top off the meal. If that little treat is not sufficient then your free to order from a desert menu. However, if you have a sweet tooth at Mavericks you have to go with the regular desert menu. I personally skipped the desert.

As for the service, I was very please. The waitress was friendly and joked with us. The servers at the buffet were mind readers... they always knew what I wanted. But then again I suspect they knew I was going to try everything and they simply used process of elimination! I was very pleased with the food. At $12.99 most buffets would be over priced but not this one. However, they should include something sweet. The atmosphere was pleasant and quite and added the final touch to a pleasant dining experience.

Pros: The Beer!!!
Cons: The crazzy people who never stop yelling

The Pump House brews Moncton's favourite beer and they serve it with some great food. Some friends and I visited one evening mainly for the beer but we had to order some food as well. Before I get going, I will first say the service was great. They were fast and pleasant. I ordered the sweet chilli wings. My usual order of wings are the honey barbeque wings. After trying these tasty treats I think they are me new favourite. The sweet chilli sauce is full of flavour with a bit of zip. The wings are not at all hot. The only thing I can think to compare them to are the sweet chilli heat Doritos without the heat! The beer that I tried this time was the Cadian Ale. That too was great. Give it a try in place of what seems to be everyone's favourite, the Blueberry Ale. The unfortunate thing about this evening was that the place was VERY LOUD!! The whole place was damn near empty but there was a group of people singing at the top of their lungs in the back. I was disappointed that this went on the entire evening. I am sure that earlier on people left because of that group of people. Perhaps my opinion is wrong but I think the staff should have told the group to bring it down a bit or find some place else to go. My ranking on this visit must be influenced by the obnoxious crew in the back. The Pump House gets a 4/5.

Pros: Everythign was great!
Cons: None

Graffiti is a Mediterranean cuisine style restaurant located on Main St. I would describe the decor inside as "artsy". Its a small restaurant with 2 levels. I suspect they can only accommodate about 40-50 people so there is a cozy feeling.

We visited at noon on fine day. We were greeted at the door and requested to be seated upstairs. The stairs are steep and there are a lot of them so judge where you want to sit accordingly. After being seated we were provided with menu's and water was brought to the table shortly after that. As soon as we were ready to order the waiter was there. We were a group of 6 that day and considering the size of our group we got served fairly fast. I think the wait for our food was only about 15 minutes.

I ordered the chicken souvlaki. I do not recall the menu indicating that it would come as a wrap but it did. It was not what I was expecting but it was still fantastic. The wrap was very flavourful. The Greek salad was also very good, with the exception of the olives (I hate olives). The potato wedges on the side were also very tasty. Over all the food was excellent.

When we finished up the waiter was there to clear the table and being lunch hour he quickly returned with the checks. We paid and went on our way.

The service here was excellent. The waiter was diligent and attentive taking his job seriously but he still maintained a humorous attitude that help make this a pleasant visit. I think the service here was fantastic.

On this visit I am giving Graffiti a 5/5. My only complaint is the olive but that's my fault for not requesting "no olives".

Very relaxing dining environment with great food but where is the service?, Oct 3, 2007

Pros: The food was outstanding
Cons: The service was awkward at best.

Well, where do I start, the crappy service or the excellent food? This is a challenging review because it brings up the whole debate about what's more important, great food or great service. I will consider just that as I write this review. Vito's is an Italian restaurant on Mountain Rd. They have been located there for several decades and have developed a loyal clientele. They provide a dim lit, quite atmosphere with very soft music in the background. It sets the tone for a pleasant evening.

On the other hand, the service makes you fell unwelcome. That was my first thought when I entered and the hostess looked at me as if she was thinking "oh great, another one". She seated me in a corner an my waitress was right over to take my order. I was not ready so I asked for a glass of water and when she returned a few minutes later I ordered the Chicken Slovakia, thus concluding the evenings service.

My waitress returned with a warm bun and shortly there after she returned with my main dish. At this time I was out of water and asked for another glass. I slowly ate my food and I was still sitting with an empty glass. Now I was sitting with no water and no food... hello... what's wrong with this picture? After about 10 minutes passed by my waitress returned to ask if I wanted anything else. I asked for the water that I had not received and I ordered the raspberry eruption for desert. Oddly, the waitress was not apologetic nor put out in the slightest that she forgot to serve one of her customers. Off she went to get my water and dessert. She always seemed in a rush to leave but not to return. It took her about 10 minutes to find a piece of cake and a glass of water. I eat my dessert and start waiting for the waitress to return. I did not have my watch on but shortly after I finished the table beside be said well, its 8:02 we should be leaving. They got up and disappeared. It seemed that 10 more minutes passed and still no check. I decided to stop waiting and go to the cash to play. The lady working on the cash said that she would have to go find my waitress to get her to do the check. about 2-3 minutes later she returned and told me that she had to do my check because my waitress was no where to be found. She assumed that my waitress was busy with a large group in for a reservation. If my waitress was so busy with the reservation why was she in the main room serving me... why did they not have another waitress take my order? I have used the words "sufficient", or "just adequate" to describe some bad service in Moncton but those terms are too generous for this place. This service was terrible. Absolutely brutal. I don't think it would be possible to receive any less service. After all my waitress did not make it back to my table before I gave up and left!

No to confuse all of my readers... The food was fantastic!!!! The Greek salad with my meal was chunky with tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese. They also used just the right amount of dressing. There was enough to give a great flavor and not enough to drown the rest of my plate. The Slovakia was tender, moist, and full of flavor. This was some of the best Slovakia that I have had in Moncton. The rice was cooked with tomato's and vegetables. This added lots of character to the rice and gave it a great flavor. I ended the meal with the Raspberry eruption cheesecake. This was a great desert but if you like chocolate go for the chocolate eruption. The raspberry version is not as sweet.

Well, its time to rate Vito's. Let me be clear, any points lost here are due to bad service. The food was fantastic, but I can only give Vito's a weak 3.5/5. I will try them again and if I get the same quality of food with great service they will see a dramatic improvement in their rank.

A nice irish pub but the large open front room can get very loud., Oct 3, 2007

Pros: Food quality and value.
Cons: none

The Triangle is an Irish style pub and the menu feature's some traditional Irish meals. On this visit I arrived at approximately 7:00 pm on a Thursday night.

For an appetizer I tried their nachos. I should have avoided them because I have never been impressed by nachos served at any restaurant. For the main course I opted for pan fried haddock. I was very please with the large piece of haddock served with their own tartar sauce. The coleslaw was made with a sweetened vinegar dressing as opposed to the commonly used miracle whip dressing.

What can I say about the atmosphere... LOUD! The front room is very loud because of what seems to be an echoing of the walls. Personally I found it uncomfortably loud. However; I quickly found the back room, which was empty when we arrived, which provided a buffer from the noise out front. The rear escapes a bit of the typical pub feeling. This area was more relaxed and very pleasant.

The service was average. On arrival we were promptly served and our orders taken. They were quite busy and consequently the wait time for the meal was a bit long. Throughout the evening the waitress revisited our table to check in. This was a pleasant surprise considering the vast majority of the customers where in the front room.

The price range is very reasonable. On this visit the total bill for myself and my companion was under $30, drinks not included of course!
